Rumors spread for over a year across the far reaches of the internet, just as rumors spread of the Black Pearl and its undead crew, the 4184 The Black Pearl, finally hit retail shelves on November 1st, 2011.
Jack Sparrow’s Black Pearl is once again roaming the seven seas, pillaging and plundering his weasely black guts out. However, Jack isn’t as free as he wants to be: he’s being tracked by Davy Jones. Thirteen years ago, Jack made a deal with Jones to raise the Pearl from the depths, and now Jones is calling in the loan. One hundred years before the mast, will he serve or can Captain Jack Sparrow somehow escape this time?
The fastest pirates ship ever built with the wind, the Black Pearl can outrun any ship with the wind. The unadorned black hull and sails give the ship a spooky atmosphere, and allow the ship to ambush unassuming vessels at night or slip into the fog to avoid pursuers. However, that won’t help them when facing Davy Jones, master of the waters and his dread ship The Flying Dutchman. The four cannons, however, are another story entirely; manned by the best pirate crew this side of Tortuga, they might not be enough to keep Jack out of the clutches of the Kraken. Ready the Black Pearl for battle with Joshamee Gibbs and Will Turner against Davy Jones crew, consisting of the half-animal pirates Maccus and Bootstrap Bill. The assorted weapons available will at least ensure that the fight will be entertaining.

The minifigures are all exquisitely detailed, right down to every last barnacle and facial hair. William ‘Bootstrap Bill’ Turner is decked out in his worn sailors uniform, encrusted with all manner of sea creatures. The mud colored hat and grim look on his face fit perfectly with his mission of bringing the black spot. Davy Jones looks positively ferocious with his intense stare and tentacled face. The minifigure is adorned with a large blue hat, gigantic claw and a peg leg, recreating him as he was exactly in the movie. Captain Jack Sparrow has his typical mop of hair and outlandish pirate clothes. William Turner looks fine in his adventuring getup, the perfect colonial gentleman. Mr. Gibbs wears his worn royal navy uniform, grayed and stained from years of service. With his grey hair is slicked back, all he’s missing is his flask. Maccus wears his shark head proudly, decked in barnacles and rags, one of the most fearsome members of the crew.
This LEGO reproduction of the classic ship works to recreate in detail Jack’s ship, right down to the Captain’s detailed cabin (which opens up to allow for expansive play), pirate flag, functioning helm and working anchor. The ship even features a black female angel figurehead on the prow of the ship, perfectly recreated from the movies. Designed with 804 pieces, this Dead Man’s Chest version of the Pirates of the Caribbean ship is a must have for any pirate loving LEGO fan. Recommended for builder of ages 8 to 14, measuring at over 21 inches (53cm) long, 20 inches (50cm) tall and 5 inches (12cm) wide, this is an immense build. The age range is so high due to the difficulty to build, but the set provides an immense playability and creative opportunity. That makes it a great set for parents to build with their children, and help them learn the necessary skills for the more complicated sets.
