The comic duo from Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, Anakin and Ahsoka had so many exciting and dangerous adventures all over the galaxy. Riding around in Republic cruisers isn’t always an option, especially when on secret missions.
The Twilight, a modified Corellian Engineering Corporation G9 Rigger freighter saved the lives of R2-D2, Ahsoka, ‘Skyguy’ and Rota the Huttlet after their own ship was destroyed in a Separatist ambush. Having used the beautiful ship to escape Asaji Ventess, Anakin took a liking to the craft and modified her to be faster, more reliable and better able to defend herself.
882 pieces, the perfectly replicated 7680 The Twilight is a great addition to any Star Wars Lover’s collection. With realistic, moving gun emplacements for defense and a poseable flight stabilizer fin, the boxy craft can be ready for battle at a moments’ notice. The craft is even large enough to hold its crew comfortably, including an opening cargo bay and cockpit for ease of playing with minifigures. The set even includes a tow cable, winch and a side escape pod, for those tight moments. Using retractable landing gear, this set can be displayed alongside the best of any LEGO lover’s collection.
Coming in at 12 inches (30cm) long and 18 inches (46cm) wide, the Twilight is no pushover. Released as a limited edition set exclusive to Toys-R-Us, the set hit shelves on July 26, 2008. Including Ahsoka, Anakin, baby Rota and R2-D2 (Clone Wars variations), this set is recommended for builders age 9 to 14, because of the complex moving mechanisms.
But the Twilight wasn’t the only ship used by Anakin and Ahsoka in their adventures. Also straight out of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series comes the 8037 Anakin’s Y-Wing Starfighter.
Not quite as unique as the Twilight, the first generation Y-Wing is a great vehicle for partners. Dubbed Y-wings for their blocky shape, these reliable craft are perfect for long bombing runs, but also feature exceptional combat capabilities. These starfighters utilize twin forward laser cannons, a rear facing swivel turret, manned by the co-pilot, and a missile system.
The 8037 Anakin’s Y-Wing Starfighter set works to faithfully recreate the iconic starfighter is great detail. The front cockpit features a full control panel and has room enough for any non-helmeted minifigures, so no Clone Trooper will be flying today. Right behind that is Ahsoka’s seat, large enough to fit her special headpiece or any other minifigure for that matter.
The fighter itself is well built and can handle rough play. The weapons systems add to the playability: the turret is able to swivel up and down, allowing you to track whatever baddies are riding you tail, while the missiles can be launched by pulling back on R2-D2. There is also a secret compartment at the tail of the fighter, large enough to store any lightsabers or other personal equipment while flying.
Released on June 28, 2009, this set was part of the third round of Clone Wars line. At 570 pieces, this set is recommended for builders age 8 to 14, because of the difficult design of the engines and the framework, which is made up of many little pieces. The set includes the Clone Wars variations of the Anakin, Ahsoka and R2-D2 minifigures.
Both of these sets provide great play and a great building challenge, perfect for any fan of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series.
