There are few places in the galaxy as dangerous as Jabba’s Throne Room. Constantly filled with a gang of thieves, bounty hunters, assassins and other criminals trying to gain Jabba’s approval, one wrong move or one misplaced insult could spell the end for any being. Han Solo traveled the galaxy and stopped off at Jabba’s to pick up an easy job running spice. Suppose to be easy, anyways. Han got jumped by an Imperial patrol and dumped the spice, much to Jabba’s displeasure. Running for years, Han was finally caught in Cloud City and Boba Fett brought him to Jabba, encased in a block of carbonite. Hung in the throne room as a decoration and an example, Han’s friends mount a desperate rescue attempt.
One of the three sets that are part of the Product Collection is the LEGO 4480 Jabba’s Palace. This smaller set allows builders to recreate those memorable scenes from the beginning of the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi movie. The action packed set contains the throne room and six minifigures (Jabba the Hutt, Leia Organa (slave version), Luke Skywalker, a B’omarr Monk, the torture droid EV-9D9 and a Gonk droid.
The throne room itself is an open structure, but underneath are the holding cells. The trap door doesn’t open up to the Rancor pit, but you’ll still be sorry you angered Jabba. EV-9D9 is there to welcome any new prisoners, welcome them into a world of pain that is. The lower level can also open up to allow for more room as well.
Leia wears her slave outfit, and is chained to the wall next to Jabba the Hutt. Luke Skywalker is wearing the black jumpsuit, black hood and cloak all straight out of the movie. Carrying his green lightsaber, Luke is out to change Jabba’s mind about keeping Han frozen, one way or another. The Gonk droid is little more than a walking safe, but it and the humanoid EV-9D9 looks exactly like their movie counterparts. The B’omarr Monk’s had the strange practice of removing the brains from older monks so that they could meditate on the mysteries of the universe without the physical distractions of having a body. The monks walk around in spider-like drones, talking to those around them only if they want. Jabba the Hut reclines on a repulsarlift couch at the top of the throne room. Coming in two pieces, there is little the Hutt can do other than lie around. A vat of frogs sits beside his royal fatness, ready for him to snack on if he gets hungry….
This is first ever set to include slave Leia, Jabba the Hutt or a Gonk droid. At the same time, it was also the only actual set to include the Luke Skywalker with cape and hood, EV-9D9 and B’omarr Monk minifigures. This 234-piece set is recommended for builders 7 to 12 years old. Complex mechanisms might give younger builders problems, but even most of them should be able to build this set with a little help. Great for Star Wars fans of all ages though, Jabba’s place is a must have for any collection.
Luke Skywalker has returned and are out on a rescue mission! Recreate the action in Jabba the Hutt’s palace, save Han, or let Jabba capture everyone and take them out to the Sarlacc pit. Either way, you are in control, so may the Force be with you!
